Our Programs: Building a Safer, Stronger Crown Heights
-
Monthly Community Meetings
Held on the second Monday of each month at 7:30 PM, these meetings provide a consistent platform for residents to voice concerns, share ideas, and receive updates directly from the NYPD’s 77th Precinct leadership. Offered both in-person and virtually to ensure accessibility, these gatherings foster transparency, encourage community participation, and strengthen the partnership between law enforcement and the Crown Heights community.
-
National Night Out Against Crime
This annual nationwide event is designed to promote police-community partnerships and strengthen neighborhood spirit. In Crown Heights, it features family-friendly activities, resource tables, live entertainment, and opportunities for residents to meet and connect with local officers in a relaxed, positive setting. The event helps build trust, reduce fear, and encourage collaboration in creating safer neighborhoods.
-
Gun Violence Prevention Initiatives
In partnership with Save Our Streets (SOS) Crown Heights and the Kings Against Violence Initiative (KAVI), the Council supports community-based approaches to interrupting cycles of violence. These programs follow the Cure Violence model, using trained outreach workers, mediators, and community engagement to prevent conflicts before they escalate, provide support to at-risk individuals, and promote alternatives to violence.
-
Domestic Violence Awareness Dinner
This event, hosted in collaboration with the 77th Precinct United Clergy Council, raises awareness about domestic violence while providing critical resources to survivors and their families. Attendees hear from advocates, survivors, and service providers, and leave with information about local support services, counseling, and legal assistance. It’s a space for compassion, education, and community healing.
-
Community Affairs
Communty Affairs are dedicated officers assigned to specific sectors of the precinct who work closely with residents to solve persistent problems and address quality-of-life issues. They are accessible via phone, email, and in person, ensuring that community members have a direct line to the NYPD for ongoing concerns. This program emphasizes trust, relationship-building, and proactive problem-solving.
-
Youth Initiatives and Mentorship Programs
Spearheaded in part by Council President Brian Saunders, these initiatives aim to provide young people in Crown Heights with positive outlets, skill-building opportunities, and mentorship. Programs focus on fostering leadership, creativity, and civic engagement, helping youth to thrive academically, socially, and personally while building a stronger, more resilient community.
